Twitter Raises Funding

The recent news that Twitter is now valued at around a billion dollars had me checking the calendar. It's not April 1st but an incredible development, especially as there are question marks surrounding the business model of the company. The $100 million they now have available will likely be used for acquisitions, projects and servers considering the well documented scalability issues.

Twitter is a conversation tool and although there are many that don't realise the benefits I find the service offers significant value. The people I follow share the same view and the investors obviously believe in the potential. The API and third party developers provide a solid ecosystem for the microblogging platform that could hold the key to monetization. How much would I value Twitter? That's a difficult question, especially as many debate whether microblogging has peaked and whether the founders will allow Twitter to become another Google acquisition. I believe that both instances will have a bearing on the future of the Twitter platform. What are your views?!
