The final straight....

Was going to head to a Bar today to watch the football, felt that with the never-been-to-a-match-before Manchester United fans likely there it would spoil my enjoyment of both games. Firstly I headed over to Bluewater in the morning with the children to return a T-Shirt that I had picked up Friday. Had got two but one of them was in extra small and although it did kind of fit it was more like a crop top. The Wild Stallions would have loved it! Objective complete, so headed over to my parents as the children were to spend the rest of the day there. They are so cheeky now, the parting comments I received when I left was about all the things I smelt of, charming!

So on to the football and I decided that I would watch both games, switching between the two matches to see how it was going. I have to say that from what I saw of the United game Wigan were on them for the best part of the early proceedings. Chelsea looked good in their game although John Terry got himself injured in a collision with Cech and had to be taken off to hospital. This was a worry at the back but we still pressed and Drogba just missed giving us the lead. It was always going to be whoever scored first would have the psychological advantage. Then news came through on the Chelsea game that United had been awarded a penalty. I turned over to see Ronaldo stood over the ball, he struck the ball and scored, was there going to be any other outcome though. Pressure on Chelsea now and as both games headed to half time it was still nicely poised.

Second half got underway and I was really nervous, it always seems in big games that I end up going on walks and being indecisive of my actions and fidgeting about. That was until Shevchenko scrabbled home the all important goal that meant now that it was back over to the United match. The game seemed more high tempo than Chelsea's match but then the way United got their second was just poor defending. Giggs collected the ball between two defenders and fired home, in doing so engraving their name on the Trophy. This just drained the life from the Chelsea game and although they had chance it became lacklustre as no matter what they did they were never going to score 20+ goals to overhaul Manchester United. Then Bolton struck through Taylor at the end to further compound the fact that Chelsea's biggest issue this season has been the lack of goals and also the failure to see out results. Overall Manchester United deserved the title but Chelsea will no doubt feel hard done by with how it's all ended. Hopefully we will now use the pain of losing out in the title race to inspire in the Champions League final! We shall see...
